Announcing the 2023 Graduate Studies Scholarship Recipients

Katie Dukes is a Life member of the Theta Theta chapter of Tau Beta Sigma at Henderson State University. While at Henderson State, Katie received a Bachelor of Science in Education with concentration in Middle Level Education.

Katie was initiated into Tau Beta Sigma in the fall of 2006. During her time as an active member, Katie served as the Band and Community Service Coordinator and Treasurer for her chapter. Upon graduation, Katie joined the Tau Beta Sigma Alumni Association and Southwest District Alumni Association. She served on the SWDAA Board of Directors in various roles- including serving three terms as the Chairperson. From there, Katie was elected to the TBSAA Executive Council where she served as the Programs Chair and then as the Chairperson for the Executive Council. Katie has been serving the students of the Southwest District as a Counselor since 2019.

Katie currently lives in Texarkana, Texas with her daughters, Charlie and Claire. When he isn’t teaching mathematics to her students, Katie can be found volunteering at her church, spending time with her friends and family, and crafting.

Misty Lovejoy joined Tau Beta Sigma in January of 2017 and is a Life Member of the Alpha Xi Chapter. She graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Musical Arts, minoring in NonProfit Administration, with a Graduate Certificate in Social and Interactive Media, and with a Master of Arts in Media and Communication Studies. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Leadership for Organizations at the University of Dayton. At BGSU, Misty played the Mellophone in the Falcon Marching Band and Athletic Band and served on leadership for 4 years. She was also a member of the French Horn section of the university bands and a member of multiple vocal ensembles.

In Tau Beta Sigma, Misty has served as Parliamentarian, Historian, NCD Secretary/Treasurer, and NCD President. Misty also served as the chair of several other committees within her home chapter. She is a member of the National Communications Committee and has served as a Petitioning Group Advisor for the Florida Memorial University Tau Beta Sigma Petitioning Group.

In her professional life, Misty is an Administrative Coordinator for First Community Church in Columbus, Ohio. In her free time, she enjoys reading and playing with her two cats: Sky and Max. She also enjoys painting, reading, and scrolling through social media.
