For Greater Bands 5K
Each year, TBSAA hosts the For Greater Bands 5K to support music. The current race supports our National Intercollegiate Band (NIB), focusing on the student experience for the National Intercollegiate Band participants. The TBSAA helps to create a space for the NIB participants to feel welcomed and included in their overall experience with Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Kappa Psi.

The Future of the 5K
In 2024, the TBSAA is transitioning the donation of the For Greater Bands 5K to support a hallmark program of the sorority, the National Intercollegiate Band (NIB) by creating a space for NIB participants to feel welcomed and included.
Increased Participation
Between 2022 and 2023, we had over 100 participants between the two annual races and raised $4,000 to donate to the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation.
Continuing the Journey
The 2021 virtual race was held on May 1st with 80 participants and $2,000 was donated to the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation. Thank you to all who supported secondary music education in our schools!
COVID Race
The 2020 virtual race was held on April 25 with over 80 participants and $2,500 was donated to the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation. Regardless if you participated just to get out of your house and away from COVID on the news, but we thank you for your participation and support!
Establishing an Annual Race
The next two For Greater Bands 5Ks were held on November 4, 2017, and November 10, 2018. They were also a virtual 5Ks, and proceeds were donated to the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation. The MHOF was thrilled to be the new beneficiary!
Second Race
The second race (and first virtual race) was held on October 15, 2016. Runners & walkers from across the country all participated to help raise $3,000 for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation that day and shared their success via social media.
First 5K
The first race took place on May 3, 2015 at Symphony Woods/Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. Organized by the TBSAA Special Projects committee, this was a fun, sunny day with several dozen people coming together to raise money for music education.
