Recapping the 2017-2018 Year

The 2017-18 membership year for the Tau Beta Sigma Alumni Association was monumental! Thank YOU for being a part of the progress that was made over the past year!

TBSAA started things off with a successful National Convention in Orlando, Florida! The meetings and discussions were meaningful and helpful in guiding the future of the TBSAA. The Executive Council heard feedback that has been crucial in forming an updated Local Alumni Association (LAA) Handbook. This handbook will serve as a guide for the TBSAA LAAs in their business practices, social events, and fundraising efforts. Also during National Convention, the biennial Executive Council election completed and the newly elected EC members were announced: David Alexander, Chris Foster, and Tyra Yiare. Along with constructive conversations and an exciting election, critical changes were made to the TBSAA Constitution during the business meetings. First, the delegation voted that in order to participate in an LAA, all members must be dues paying TBSAA members. When that vote passed, it allowed for the EC to give back to the LAAs by doing away with the $50 renewal fee, and by providing a financial allotment to each LAA based on the number of Gold Star and Standard TBSAA Members on their LAA rosters. This year, the EC gave a grand total of $722 back to the Local Alumni Associations!

The fall of 2017 brought the annual TBSAA For Greater Bands 5K. This year, the EC voted to donate all proceeds to the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation. Working with the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation was truly a positive experience and the EC was thrilled to donate $2,000 on behalf of the TBSAA For Greater Bands 5K!

In January of 2018, the Executive Council met for the annual Winter Council Meeting in sunny San Diego, California. The EC took a close look at February through July of 2018 in terms of strategic planning and targeted drives. One big point of discussion was membership recruitment. The EC has a goal of increasing TBSAA membership by 20% over the biennium, so strategies were discussed to target members of all ages and desired levels of involvement with TBSAA. Although the trip to San Diego was mostly spent in meetings, the EC was able to work efficiently and accomplished all of the set agenda items!

Throughout the year, the TBSAA Mentorship Program has been up and running with more participants than ever! Mentors and mentees have been paired based on college major and professional fields. Be on the lookout for the next round of sign ups coming soon!

The TBSAA Executive Council appreciates your continued support and involvement! We cannot wait to see you all again in Stillwater for National Convention 2019!
